Goleszów is a scenic town situated in the western part of Teschen Foothills, in a wide saddle between Chelm (451 m. Above sea level) and Jasieniowa (520 m.), at both sides of watershed splitting river basins of Vistula and Odra at 320 – 450 m. Above sea level.

It is one of the oldest towns in Teschen Land. First notice comes from 1223, when Goleszow was being forced to pay tithe to upkeep nuns of Saint Saviour Church in Rybnik, by the force of regulation of prince of Opole, Kazimierz, bestowed by Wroclaw's bishop Wawrzyniec.

Settlement in Goleszow has started in the present Lower Goleszow, in lower situated areas where farming was easier. In the course of time population has started to settle in the present Upper Goleszow.
In 1653 Goleszow came into posession of Habsburgs, same as other towns in Duchy of Teschen . Local limestones have been started to be extracted in 17th century. In 1888 Goleszow has become a junction thanks to construction of Bielsko – Teschen and Goleszow – Ustron railway lines. Gaining railway connection and the occurence of marl and limestones in the region of Goleszow have made possible of building few limestone furnaces by Eryk Gasch in 1889 at Jasieniowa mountainside and in 1898 – 1989 „Goleszow” cement plant at the railway line. Its first owners were Goldstaein brothers from Wroclaw and H.M. Flieszbach from Glogow. In 1906 its shares have been taken over by Goleszow Portland Cement Factory S.A. With head office in Vienna. Construction of this industrial plant caused significant population inflow into Goleszow. Within 20 years, between 1890 and 1910 number of residents has almost doubled from 1334 to 2434, whereas in cement plant alone there were 1 – 1,4 thousands of people working. The cement plant existance have also changed character of the village. Former Goleszow was typical ribbon village. Its settlement axis was the present Freedom road. Later on, within the settlement expansion, Goleszow in its western area was becoming a village of a multistreet village character. The change of employment structure had also taken place. From farming village Goleszow became and industrial village. In 1931 even 67% of its residents have been living from work in industry and only 16% from farming.

Within few months after regaining independence by Poland in January 1919 Goleszow and whole Teschen Land were witnesses of Czech army invasion. The town has been freed from invaders hands on 20th February 1919. In time of great crisis from the beginning of thirties of 20th century, Goleszow was also a witness of labor speeches. In connection with interruption of cement manufacturing in 1935, during protestation gathering 1 worker died and 7 were injured.

     - In interwar era Education Gymnastics Association „Strength” was operating that was carrying different sections and was organizing many events. In that time the Gliding School has been established at the neighboring mountain „Chelm”.

During Second World War Goleszow's residents took part in resistance movement. Many of the, have been arrested and executed. Sub-camp „Goleszow” has been created in cement plant that was a branch of concentration camp in Aushwitz. Prisoners were working here (mostly Jews), in terrible conditions, most often in quarry. Sub-camp had been liquidated in January 1945. For the commemoration of murdered prisoners from the sub-camp „Goleszow: and ten residents of Goleszow (from 162 murdered in whole gmina), two monuments were created: in front of House of Commons in Goleszow and „Under Grabowka” at northern slopes of Jasieniowa mountain.

After deliverance on 03.05.1945 village residents quickly came back to normal life. Goleszow was evolving dynamically. Agricultural cooperative have been established as well as Cooperative Agricultural Plant and in 1970 Electrical Goods Factory „Celma” construction has started. In 1972 first production has started and in 1974 assembly line for making licenced drills (with Bosch licence) was being given to use. In the second half of seventies of the 20th century few new facilities arised in Goleszow: new (unfortunately devastated at present) building of PKP „Upper Goleszow” railway station, big chicken farm „Lawki”, shopping pavilion „Puttyroot” and Health Centre. Thanks to this also, Goleszow won second place in thriftiness in 1978 . An event that was significant for economical situation of Goleszow's residents was the cement plant liquidation in the beginning of nineties. From last few years also „Celma” plants have difficulties too. But inspite of these troubles new buildings are still being built (within financial abilities). Examples of this may be the new building of Gymnasium with beautiful gym hall given to use in summer 2003 and the Folk House in Goleszow Rownia, opened in 2002.

     - Nowadays, Goleszow has about 4 thousands residents and is a town with industrial – farming character. Thanks to the clear air (especially after cement plant liquidation) and its charming location, tourism has a great chance to evolve.

Goleszow can also be proud of having large achievements in sports. In old times it was famous from ski jumping (being identified with Tajners family), volleyball (players were playing in 2nd national ligue) and chess. Currently, women's football team that plays in 2nd national ligue and archers (especially the member of national Polish crew – Zbigniew Stanieczek) may be proud of their great achievements.

     - An interesting event that takes place every year in Goleszow is Town Hall Bicycle Race, that always gathers mass of participants.

There are many celebrities that come from Goleszow, for example:
